Cathedral ~ Puerto Montt

Winter 2016

I present to you the Our Lady of Mount Carmel Cathedral, of Puerto Montt. My partner and I went to visit my aunt this winter, and while we were there he obviously had to accompany me while I scouted for local churches and cathedrals. It is a Roman Catholic church that was first built in 1892. It was later elevated to a cathedral in 1932.

This beautiful building is made of "Alerce" wood, otherwise known as the Patagonian cypress, like most churches in that region. Its cupola is made of copper, and whenever the sun hits it it gives out a marvelous glow. 

We weren't able to enter the church, since it was closed on the day we were visiting. So that will have to be left for another visit.

Autumn Date

May 2016

It was in this exact park that my partner and I began dating a few years back. It was a lot of fun being able to come back, especially in this beautiful autumn weather that just seemed to cast a veil of colors over a space that we knew so well through summer. 

These ducks looked like beautiful water nymphs bathing in between the reeds.

Autumn Window

I probably have said this before, but autumn is by far my favourite season. The colors, the rain, the cool winds and the feel of a warm cup in your hands... It's heaven for me. Our town's Chocolate Shop, Entrelagos (where I went to buy my Easter Chocolate!!) always changes their window displays. I have to admit that in the past years they have been a bit boring and unoriginal, but whoever is doing the new display is doing an amazing job!! I wish I had taken pictures of the other displays, so as soon as this one came out I made sure to take pictures. The attention to detail is amazing, it really brings it all together. 

Walking about town and seeing these kinds of details makes one really feel that autumn is here, and it makes me very happy.

It's Mushroom Season!!

Autumn is finally here, and you know what that means? Mushrooms!! These past weeks I've begun to see them sprouting everywhere and I've just been dying to go out with my camera and go mushroom hunting. I took these photos last weekend and I'm really happy with how all of them turned out. It makes me want to go out and look for more.

I'm afraid I was only able to identify the Amanita, so I'm trying to get in contact with someone who knows a bit more. If I know anything I will be sure to update.

Easter Chocolate

I finally went Easter shopping! I decided to go to my town's most famous Chocolate Shop, Entrelagos. They make artisanal chocolate, right there in the shop! Even though the wait took more than an hour and it was really crowded, it was totally worth it. 

I really wanted one of those big bunnies (they must have been about 0.5 m) but they were way out of my price range. So after buying for my family I got this cute little one instead.

Cemetery on film - Corral

Sometime during the end of February I went along to a trip with my partner to Corral, and one of the thing we did was visit the local cemetery. It's located along a hillside where there are graves scattered around everywhere without any real path or order. One of the nicest things about this one it that it was very colourful.  As you can see from the pictures the predominant colour is white, and it's filled with bright fake flowers; even though these aren't my favourite it did add an ever lasting touch of colour and brightness. 

I plan on going back soon with my digital camera and take more photos of this place.

"Hongos" - Fungi Exhibition

I don't know why but recently I feel as though my town's recent exhibitions were just made for me. The exhibition "Hongos: Un Reino por Descubrir" (spanish for "Mushrooms a Kingdom to Discover") was no exception. It was mainly developed by the Fundacion Fungi, and the information and photography was provided by them. So now I shall show you the pictures!!

The details really made all the difference. It was beautifully set out, very dinamic and the information was easy to understand and very complete. 

They even had this adorable platform so one could take photos and feel like a small pixie. My partner was the one who invited me to the exhibition and was more than happy to take pictures of me.

He even laid on the floor in order to take this angled shot!! And as you can see in both photos I was trying not to burst with excitement and skip around with glee.
